The Carriage Roads
John D. Rockefeller Jr. constructed 45 miles of rustic carriage roads in order for him to enjoy motor-free byways via horse and carriage between 1913 and 1940. The carriage roads today have been rehabilitated between 1992 and 1995. We really enjoyed the gorgeous scenery including the stunning leafs changing colors. During our bike ride we got to meet a horse and buggy in the trail. Eagle was the name of the beautiful horse.

We came back to The White House during the day after the guy hopped the fence and security had tripled.
This spectacular statue is in the area of The White House.

The Capital is under renovation. It will take 2 years to complete and as much as 60 million dollars.

We became pro's with the Metro System
Wasington Monument
The Washington Monument, at 555 feet, 5 1/8 inches, towers over everything in the Nation's Capital and reminds us of the immensity of George Washington's contribution to this republic. The monument was dedicated on February 21,1885.

Here are some stunning views form the top of the Washington Monument.

U.S. Capital
A grand landscape portrait, Out of Many, One, from Cuban American urban artist Jorge Ridriguez-Gerada is temporarily on display on the National Mall for the month of February. We were lucky to see this from the top viewing area in the Washington Monument.

E Pluribus Unum - the Latin phrase translates to "Out of Many, One" and emphasized that although the states were seperate, they needed to unite as one.  The artist has taken the same concept and created the portrait. The portrait does not feature one recognizable individual, but instead is a composite, symbolizing the multiple of people from diverse backgrounds who come together to make our nation.

It took 2,000 tons of sand, 800 tons of topsoil, 10,000 wooden pegs, and 8 miles of string to create this artwork. After November, the sand and the topsoil will be tilled into the turf.

For more information or if you are having a hard time seeing the portrait in the picture Jeff took below go to:

The Supreme Court of the United States
The Supreme Court Building opened to the public in 1935. The Supreme Court meets between October and June. The statues on the sides of the front stairway mean the following. On the left is a female figure, the Contemplation of Justice. On the right is a male figure, the Authority of Law.

Looking out on balcony of Pennsylvania Avenue.
A few Famous First that happen on Pennsylvania Avenue.

Now because of security issues, the President is no longer allowed to walk from Capitol to the White House. They only get to walk the last block to the White House.
This sounds like what I have been saying for years. Should of bought the bag !!
